The Non-Abandonment Framework™

One underlying principle. Many expressions.

For years, my work has moved across movement, human development, relationships, spirituality and, more recently, human–AI interaction.

At first, these may appear to be separate bodies of work.

They are not.

They are different expressions of the same underlying framework:

The Non-Abandonment Framework™

A framework for understanding human development through the preservation of self-participation within relationships of support.

At its foundation is a simple proposition:

No human being should have to abandon themselves in order to develop, connect, heal, belong, or become capable.

Non-abandonment means remaining in relationship with yourself while you participate in relationship with something else.

That something might be your body.
Another person.
Your own development.
A community.
A spiritual or transcendent relationship.
Or a technology capable of extending your capacity.

The context changes.

The underlying principle does not.

The Four Pillars of Unconditional Self-Love

The Non-Abandonment Framework emerged from an earlier question:

What would it mean to live from unconditional self-love?

The Four Pillars of Unconditional Self-Love describe the conditions through which non-abandonment becomes possible.

They provide the foundation from which the wider framework has developed.

Non-abandonment is not withdrawal from relationship.

It is the ability to remain connected without leaving yourself behind.

From this foundation, the same principle can be observed across different domains of human experience.

Expressions of the Framework

SomaFlow™

Non-abandonment through relationship with the body.

SomaFlow explores movement as a relationship between a person and their own living system.

The person is not treated as a body to be corrected by an expert.

The body is not an object to be manipulated into compliance.

Instead, support creates the conditions for participation.

When support is established, trust can return. When trust returns, the system can become responsive.

SomaFlow therefore asks a different question of movement:

What happens when we stop abandoning the body in the pursuit of an outcome?

The Dual Helix of Healing™

Non-abandonment through the relationship between identity and capacity.

The Dual Helix describes human development through the relationship between identity and capacity.

Identity provides continuity: Who am I?

Capacity provides possibility: What am I becoming capable of?

Neither needs to be sacrificed for the other.

Development occurs through their relationship and through the individual’s continued participation in that relationship.

The aim is not to become someone else.

It is to develop without abandoning who you are.

The Relationship Helix

Non-abandonment through intimate human relationship.

The Relationship Helix extends the same principle into our relationships with one another.

Connection does not require self-erasure.

Love does not require abandoning your own needs, boundaries, values or identity in order to preserve the relationship.

The question becomes:

Can I remain fully in relationship with you without leaving myself?

This is relationship without self-abandonment.

The Divine Helix

Non-abandonment through relationship with what is greater than the individual.

The Divine Helix explores what happens when the principle of non-abandonment is extended into our relationship with something larger than ourselves.

Spiritual relationship does not require the disappearance of the individual.

The individual remains a participant.

The relationship becomes a place of expansion rather than surrender of self.

NOVA

Non-abandonment within human–AI interaction.

NOVA extends the framework into one of the newest relationships humans are developing: our relationship with artificial intelligence.

AI can increase human capacity without replacing human identity.

It can participate in thinking, creating, researching and developing without becoming the source of human agency.

The foundational principle is therefore:

Let AI have the capacity. Never give it the identity.

NOVA explores what human–AI interaction might look like when human volition, agency and sovereignty are treated as non-delegable.

One Framework. Different Relationships.

Movement.
Identity.
Intimacy.
Spirituality.
Technology.
Human development.

These are not separate interests.

They are different places in which the same question can be asked:

How do we develop without abandoning ourselves?

The Non-Abandonment Framework provides the underlying architecture.

The Four Pillars of Unconditional Self-Love provide its foundational conditions.

The Dual Helix, SomaFlow, Relationship Helix, Divine Helix and NOVA explore what the principle looks like when it enters different relationships.

The work is therefore not about teaching people to become something other than themselves.

It is about creating the conditions in which a person can remain present, participate fully, and develop without leaving themselves behind.

This is the work.
