SomaFlow™ Method Orientation
What Is SomaFlow?
SomaFlow is a movement method built on a simple observation:
The body is intelligent.
Rather than focusing on ideal positions, performance goals, or correction, SomaFlow explores the conditions that allow movement to organise itself naturally.
The method is guided by three core principles:
Support before effort.
Trust is structural.
Movement is relationship.
Through a combination of awareness, strength, exploration, and integration, participants learn to work with the body’s intelligence rather than overriding it.
Over time, movement becomes less about control and more about organisation.
Less about performance and more about relationship.
Less about doing and more about understanding.
SomaFlow is suitable for movement professionals, health practitioners, and anyone interested in a deeper understanding of how the body organises itself.

SomaFlow™ Method Orientation
Learn the Language
The SomaFlow Method Orientation is the entry point into the SomaFlow learning pathway.
Designed for movement professionals and anatomy-trained practitioners, this immersive two-day training introduces the foundational principles, developmental framework, and teaching philosophy that underpin the SomaFlow Method.
Rather than teaching a collection of exercises, SomaFlow teaches a way of understanding movement.
Participants learn to view movement through capacities rather than positions, relationships rather than corrections, and development rather than performance.
SomaFlow is not a script.
It is a language.
A language that can be spoken through yoga, Pilates, strength training, rehabilitation, somatics, bodywork, coaching, and countless other movement environments.
By the end of the Orientation, participants will understand the foundational language of SomaFlow and begin exploring how it can inform their own movement practice and teaching.
Who Is This Training For?
This training is designed for:
Yoga teachers
Pilates instructors
Personal trainers
Movement educators
Somatic practitioners
Rehabilitation professionals
Allied health professionals with movement experience
Anatomy-trained practitioners seeking a deeper understanding of movement
No prior SomaFlow experience is required.
Training Purpose
The purpose of the SomaFlow Method Orientation is to introduce movement professionals to the foundational language of the SomaFlow Method.
Participants are introduced to:
The Eight SomaFlow Arcs
The Developmental Helix
SomaFlow Core Expressions
Capacity-Based Observation
Curiosity-Based Teaching
Foundational SomaFlow Class Design
Through a combination of theory, movement exploration, observation, discussion, and practical application, participants learn to view movement through the SomaFlow lens and begin speaking the language of SomaFlow.
SomaFlow recognises that every practitioner brings their own experiences, skills, personality, and movement background to the method.
A yoga teacher will express SomaFlow differently from a Pilates instructor.
A personal trainer will express SomaFlow differently from a somatic practitioner.
This diversity is not viewed as a limitation.
It is viewed as a strength.
SomaFlow provides the language.
The individual provides the voice.
The purpose of Orientation is not to create identical teachers.
The purpose is to help participants begin speaking the language of SomaFlow.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the SomaFlow Method Orientation, participants will be able to:
Understand the core philosophy and principles of the SomaFlow Method
Explain the Eight SomaFlow Arcs and their role within movement and development
Understand the Developmental Helix as a framework for movement observation
Facilitate SomaFlow Core Expressions
Observe movement through the SomaFlow lens rather than through exercises alone
Identify capacity-based themes within movement environments
Apply curiosity-based teaching principles within their existing scope of practice
Integrate SomaFlow principles into their existing movement practice and teaching
Facilitate foundational SomaFlow experiences within their existing scope of practice
Participants leave with a practical understanding of the SomaFlow framework, a foundational SomaFlow vocabulary, and the ability to begin speaking the language of SomaFlow through movement.
Graduates are able to facilitate foundational SomaFlow experiences using the SomaFlow Core Expressions and integrate SomaFlow principles within their existing scope of practice.
For many practitioners, Orientation will immediately influence the way they observe, teach, sequence, and communicate movement.
For those wishing to explore the method more deeply, the SomaFlow Practitioner Pathway provides an opportunity to develop fluency within the language, create original expressions, and discover their own authentic voice within the method.

SomaFlow Core Expressions
The Foundational Vocabulary of the Method
The SomaFlow Core Expressions are the shared vocabulary of SomaFlow.
They are a collection of foundational movement explorations that introduce the key principles, capacities, and relationships that underpin the method.
Rather than teaching a fixed set of exercises, the Core Expressions provide practical experiences through which participants can explore the SomaFlow Arcs and Developmental Helix directly.
Each Core Expression has been selected because it reveals something fundamental about how the body learns, organises, adapts, and develops.
The purpose of a Core Expression is not to achieve a particular shape.
The purpose is to create an environment in which learning can occur.
Just as language begins with vocabulary, SomaFlow begins with Core Expressions.
They provide the shared foundation from which deeper understanding can emerge.
A Language, Not a Script
Most movement education gives instructors a script.
SomaFlow gives them a language.
A script asks for replication.
A language allows expression.
Orientation does not teach participants what to think, what to teach, or how to sound.
It introduces a framework through which they can begin exploring movement in their own way.
The goal is not uniformity.
The goal is fluency.
The goal is not to create identical teachers.
The goal is to create practitioners who understand movement deeply enough to express it authentically.
SomaFlow provides the language.
The individual provides the voice.

Meet The Founder
For many years, I taught movement by the rules I had inherited.
The right position.
The right muscles.
The right technique.
The more I observed bodies, however, the more I began to notice something curious.
People did not struggle because they lacked effort.
They struggled because effort had replaced support.
That observation eventually became SomaFlow.
A movement method built on a simple idea:
Support before effort.
Trust is structural.
Movement is relationship.
Today SomaFlow continues to evolve through observation, practice, teaching, and conversation.
My role is not to tell the body what it should do.
It is to create the conditions in which its intelligence can be recognised.

Frequently Asked Questions
WHO IS THIS TRAINING FOR?
-
The SomaFlow Method Orientation is designed for movement professionals who want to move beyond memorising exercises and develop a deeper understanding of the organisational principles that underpin human movement.
Participants come from a wide range of movement backgrounds including Pilates, yoga, strength and conditioning, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, exercise physiology, personal training and dance. Others simply have a deep curiosity about movement and want to understand why it works the way it does.
You don’t need to change the work you already do.
SomaFlow doesn’t replace your existing knowledge—it transforms how you understand it.
You’ll leave with a clear understanding of the organisational principles that underpin human movement and a framework you can apply across every movement discipline. Whether you’re teaching, treating, training or moving yourself, SomaFlow changes the way you observe, interpret and communicate movement.
If you’ve ever felt there must be something deeper than learning more exercises, techniques or cues, this training is for you.
-
You don’t need years of teaching experience to attend the SomaFlow Method Orientation.
Whether you’re newly qualified, have been teaching for many years, or are preparing to enter the movement profession, the Orientation is designed to meet you where you are.
The most important prerequisite isn’t how long you’ve been teaching—it’s having a foundational understanding of human anatomy, which ensures everyone begins the training with a shared understanding of the body.
From there, SomaFlow introduces a new way of observing, understanding and organising movement.
-
SomaFlow complements rather than replaces existing movement disciplines.
Whether your background is Pilates, yoga, strength training, rehabilitation, dance, physiotherapy, exercise physiology, personal training or another movement practice, SomaFlow provides a shared language that can deepen the way you understand and organise movement.
-
No.
You don’t need to already be working as a movement professional.
The only prerequisite is a foundational understanding of human anatomy, which can be gained through an existing qualification or by completing one of our recommended anatomy courses before attending.
-
The Orientation focuses on understanding movement rather than perfecting teaching techniques.
Many participants find that learning the organisational principles early in their journey gives them a stronger foundation than simply memorising exercises.
-
To get the most from the SomaFlow Method Orientation, participants should have a foundational understanding of human anatomy.
If you’re already a qualified movement professional or health practitioner, you’ll almost certainly meet this prerequisite through your existing education.
If you haven’t yet completed anatomy training, you’re still very welcome to begin your SomaFlow journey. We simply ask that you complete a recognised anatomy course before attending the Orientation.
We recommend the following anatomy courses:
Unite Health – Functional Anatomy (our recommended option)
If you’ve already completed anatomy training through another recognised qualification, there’s no need to complete an additional course.
THE SOMAFLOW METHOD ORIENTATION
-
By the end of the SomaFlow Method Orientation, you’ll have a practical framework that fundamentally changes how you observe, understand and teach movement.
You’ll be able to teach from organisational principles rather than memorised choreography or isolated exercises.
You’ll understand why a person is moving the way they are, rather than simply trying to correct the shape they’re making.
You’ll be able to recognise when movement is being organised through support and when the body is adapting because support is missing. Instead of asking, “How do I fix this?” you’ll begin asking, “What conditions would allow this movement to organise differently?”
You’ll learn how to create movement experiences that help people understand their own bodies rather than become dependent on your instructions. Instead of creating better followers, you’ll begin creating more capable, autonomous movers.
Most importantly, you’ll learn how to help people rebuild trust in their own bodies.
By helping people recognise support, understand their own capacity and experience the organising principles of movement for themselves, you’ll give them the awareness they need to make confident decisions about their own movement. Rather than asking clients to trust your expertise, you’ll help them develop the confidence to trust themselves.
Whether you teach Pilates, yoga, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, strength training, dance or another movement discipline, you’ll leave with a framework that changes not only what you teach, but how you think about movement itself.
Many participants describe the Orientation not as learning a new method, but as finally understanding movement in a way that makes sense—one that continues to influence every class they teach, every client they work with, and every movement conversation they have.
-
The Orientation isn’t designed to teach you everything about SomaFlow.
It’s designed to give you a completely new way of understanding movement.
Over two immersive days you’ll learn the language and organisational principles that underpin the method, leaving you with a framework you can begin applying immediately.
For many participants, the Orientation is a complete educational experience in itself.
For others, it becomes the foundation for continuing into the nine-month Practitioner Training.
-
Yes.
The Orientation has been intentionally designed as a standalone learning experience.
It provides a complete introduction to the philosophy, organisational principles and shared language of the SomaFlow Method.
If you later choose to continue, the Practitioner Training builds upon this foundation rather than repeating it.
-
No.
The Orientation is a complete educational experience in its own right.
Many participants attend simply to deepen their understanding of movement and leave feeling completely satisfied with that experience.
Others discover they want to continue into the Practitioner Training.
Continuing is always a choice, never an expectation.
-
For many participants, the SomaFlow Method Orientation is a complete learning experience in itself.
For those who wish to continue, it also serves as the prerequisite for the nine-month SomaFlow Practitioner Training, where you’ll move from learning the language of SomaFlow to creating through it.
HOW IS SOMAFLOW DIFFERENT?
-
Most movement trainings teach a method.
SomaFlow teaches a shared language for understanding movement through organisational principles.
Rather than focusing primarily on memorising exercises or sequences, you’ll learn the organisational framework that allows coherent movement to be observed, understood and created with purpose.
The result isn’t simply more knowledge.
It’s a different way of seeing.
-
No.
SomaFlow isn’t designed to replace the movement discipline you already teach.
Instead, it provides a shared language and organisational framework that can deepen your understanding of movement within your existing practice.
Many practitioners discover they return to their own method with greater clarity, confidence and creativity—not because the method has changed, but because the way they see it has.
-
No.
SomaFlow isn’t a replacement for existing movement disciplines.
It is a complementary framework that helps movement professionals understand movement through shared organisational principles.
Its purpose is to enrich your existing practice, not replace it.
-
The Orientation isn’t designed to teach a library of exercises.
It’s designed to teach the organisational principles that allow you to understand, adapt and create movement with purpose.
Exercises are important.
Understanding how movement is organised gives those exercises meaning.

THE PRACTITIONER PATHWAY
-
The SomaFlow Method Orientation is the first step in the SomaFlow Training Pathway.
For many participants, the Orientation is a complete learning experience in itself.
For those who wish to continue, it also serves as the prerequisite for the nine-month SomaFlow Practitioner Training, where the focus shifts from learning the language of SomaFlow to creating through it.
-
The Practitioner Training is designed for those who want to continue their SomaFlow journey beyond the Orientation.
While the Orientation introduces the Eight Arcs through the founder’s Core Expressions and Core Sequences, the Practitioner Training develops your ability to think, observe and create through the same shared language.
Over nine months, you’ll deepen your understanding of the organisational principles, develop a library of your own original Core Expressions, compose your own Core Sequences, and learn to create coherent classes through the SomaFlow lens.
The goal isn’t to teach you more of the founder’s work.
It’s to help you discover your own.
-
Once you’ve successfully completed the SomaFlow Method Orientation, you’re eligible to enrol in the next available Practitioner Training cohort.
Information about upcoming intakes is available on our website, allowing you to explore the full pathway and plan your journey ahead.
