Movement Foundations™ Online
Are You confused by your own body?
Do you struggle to understand why you move the way you do?
Or keep wondering where you’re supposed to feel it?
Do you find yourself wondering whether you’re doing an exercise correctly, whether your posture is right, or whether you should be feeling something different?
Do you wish the instructor understood your body better?
Or maybe you’ve started to think that exercise just isn’t your thing.
Movement Foundations™ is the course for you.
This is not a movement class.
You won’t need gym clothes.
You won’t need a yoga mat.
You won’t be asked to perform exercises.
Movement Foundations™ is a theory and observation course designed to change the way you understand your body and the way you see movement.
You can do the entire course sitting in a chair.
Because the movement isn’t the thing we’re asking you to learn here.
We’re changing the way you see it.
Have you ever wondered why your body does what it does?
Maybe you’ve been told to “engage your core” and still don’t really understand what that means.
Maybe you’ve been given corrections in a Pilates, yoga or exercise class but found yourself concentrating so hard on doing things correctly that you lost touch with what you were actually feeling.
Maybe you’ve been told that something is a compensation, that your posture is wrong, that your pelvis should be neutral, or that you need to strengthen a particular muscle.
Or maybe you’ve simply spent years thinking that your body is something you need to fix, control or get better at managing.
Movement Foundations™ starts with a different question:
What if you understood what your body was already doing?
Your body is not a machine waiting for instructions.
Your body is constantly responding.
To gravity.
To pressure.
To load.
To the environment around you.
To what you’ve done before.
To what you are asking it to do now.
Some of those responses become familiar. Some become patterns. Some adaptations that were useful in one situation can continue long after the original reason for them has changed.
When we don’t understand this, it’s easy to look at our bodies and see problems.
When we begin to understand it, we can start asking different questions.
Instead of:
“What’s wrong with me?”
we can ask:
“What’s happening here?”
That shift is where Movement Foundations™ begins.
This is theory — but it isn’t just theory.
The course gives you a framework for understanding movement.
You’ll explore how support, organisation, adaptation, capacity and responsiveness influence the way your body moves.
You’ll learn to observe movement differently — not just to decide whether something looks right or wrong, but to become curious about what is happening and why.
The ideas you learn here can then be taken into your actual life.
Into your next movement class.
Into your walk.
Into getting up from a chair.
Into exercise.
Into the movements that feel unfamiliar.
You don’t need to practise the movements during the course for the course to be useful.
In fact, you can complete every lesson without getting off the couch.
The point is to give you a different lens.
What you’ll begin to understand
Organisation Before Activation
Why movement doesn’t necessarily begin with switching individual muscles on.
Support
How the body finds support through relationship, pressure and changing conditions.
Why the Pelvis?
Why the pelvis matters to the organisation of movement and how the body responds around it.
Propulsion
How movement can emerge from an organised relationship with the ground and the rest of the body.
The Pelvic Wave
A different way of thinking about the pelvis and pelvic floor — not simply as something to hold or control, but as part of a responsive system.
The Responsive Core
Moving beyond the idea of the core as something that simply needs to be strengthened, activated or held.
The Pelvic Triangle
Bringing these ideas together to understand the relationship between the structures supporting the pelvis and how that relationship changes as we move.
Reflection
Stepping back and noticing what has changed in the way you see your body.
What changes when you see your body differently?
You may start noticing things you didn’t notice before.
Why one movement feels easier than another.
Why you work harder in some situations.
Why you brace.
Why you avoid certain movements.
Why a familiar strategy keeps appearing.
Why something that looks like a problem might actually be your body adapting to the conditions it has been given.
And instead of immediately trying to correct what you see, you have another option.
You can become curious.
That is where autonomy begins.
You don’t need someone standing beside you telling you what your body is doing.
You can start developing your own understanding.
By the end of Movement Foundations™
You won’t have learned a series of exercises.
You’ll have learned a way of looking at movement.
You’ll have a framework for understanding your own body’s adaptations and responses.
You’ll have a clearer sense of where support comes from and how support relates to effort and movement.
You’ll be better equipped to notice what is happening in your own body rather than automatically looking outside yourself for the answer.
And when you do return to a movement class, go for a walk, exercise at home or simply move through your day, you’ll have a different place from which to observe yourself.
The course doesn’t teach you what your body should do.
It teaches you how to start understanding what it is doing.
You don’t need to be a movement professional.
You don’t need Pilates experience.
You don’t need to be fit, flexible or strong.
You don’t even need to get up.
You just need a body and some curiosity about it.
Movement Foundations™ is for anyone who wants to understand their body more deeply and develop a different relationship with movement.
A foundation for your own movement journey
Movement Foundations™ stands alone as a complete educational course.
